Redback Spider
I came across this juvenile Redback Spider yesterday while searching for bugs to photograph. The white markings on the back indicate that it is only a young spider. When matured, the females abdomen usually retains only the red colouring. They are probably one of Australias most well known dangerous spiders and can cause serious illness.

Excellent photo David, something new to me about the white markings.
I thorougly enjoy cliking you.
What a beautiful creature (sort of). Great shot David.
Wow! Amazing! Nice macro. A bit scary!
Reminds me of our Black Widows. Beautiful as always.
Nice spider! Won't want to tangle with him though!
What a scary, scary looking redback! *shudders* I've never seen one with all those colours on its abdomen before. It makes for a very striking photo, although I hope you used a very, very long lens. :)
I love reading the info. you provide. I know very little about the subjects I photograph(flowers, creatures) & so I enjoy learning. I am fearful of spiders, but I love seeing these beautiful photos of them.
Great shot indeed!
A lot of beautiful images at your blog! I'll set a link to your blog on my site.

P.S. Thanks for your visit and your friendly comment!
Great, great photo. I just keep learning from you.
Nice shot David! Unfortunately there are no spiders around here with the cold weather in full effect. I'm looking forward to the warmer weather so see what crawls out to say "Cheese"
I love bug shots. Very good. Interesting, too.
Thanks everyone!
Cool Dadio, yes they are closely realted to the Black Widow spider over you neck of the woods!
cheers
Not a fan of spiders myself, but the pattern makes this a beatiful creature.
Yikes - even just photo of that thing makes me shiver.
I am a displaced Bendigonian living in Canada, and people here aren't anywhere near as worried about their spiders. It's to the continual amusement of my Canadian friends that I jump sky-high when a harmless little Canadian spider crawls across the floor. Maybe if they saw this they'd understand why :-)
eek! how close did you have to get to it?
what a shot david, love the contrast and the subtle gradation.
cheers mate !
